Science History Institute
Get up close and personal in our museum with our Gallery Guides, who will lead visitors through an interactive water journey using objects from our handling collection.
In a rotating series of object lessons, visitors will explore water filtration (how is my water cleaned and why?) and water testing (how do we know what we know about water?), through processes like sand filtration, colorimetry, pH testing, and more. Featured objects include Beckman pH meters (like the one pictured at right), microscopes, and home testing kits.
Visitors will take home interactives to continue their water exploration, including a “water diary” to track their water use and its qualities and a pH home-testing activity with supplies to study their own drinking water.
Our Up Close program takes place during First Fridays at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. These events are free, but registration is strongly encouraged. Attendees will receive a 10% discount at National Mechanics.
