Cold War imagery often appeared in the political cartoons Bishop commissioned to illustrate his thoughts about drugs and alcohol. In this leaflet Bishop seems to be asking for a “Wet Curtain” to be built around the United Nations building to keep alcohol out of peace negotiations. With the fate of the planet hinging on the decisions made by the world’s political leaders, Bishop wanted them to be at their best. Curiously, Bishop presents the Wet Curtain as a positive image, even though the Iron Curtain that inspired the idea symbolized censorship, repression, and Communism.
