Staff and scholars can engage with great people and enjoy the pleasant work environment at the Science History Institute, located in the heart of Old City Philadelphia.
In a single day at the Institute you may find yourself chatting with a chemist about nanotechnology or with a historian of science about alchemy. A curator might tell you about the history of chemistry sets, or a librarian will show you a rare book. You’ll be invited to office hours with the social media editor or someone in collections. Our outreach team may be preparing for a lecture by a popular author or Nobel laureate. You may have the opportunity to submit an article for Distillations—and while you’re at it, you might want to join the Institute’s book club as well.
At the Institute you’ll work with fun, smart people from all over the world who are eager to share their knowledge. Regardless of what department you work in, you’ll spend time with people who will teach you something new every day.
We’re located in the beautiful and vibrant Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia, just two blocks from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. You can easily stroll to dozens of cafes and restaurants, boutiques, parks, and historic sites. Inside the Institute you’ll find a pleasant work environment filled with historical objects from our collection and with views of the city.
