Science History Institute/Conrad Erb

The Science History Institute has a world-class collection of historical objects, artworks, photographs, books, oral histories, and archives.

Collections Overview

In support of the Institute’s mission to foster dialogue on science and technology in society, we collect a wide range of primary and secondary historical materials that document scientific, technological, and medical achievements and their effect on the modern world. These materials are available for scholarly research and are accessible to the public through exhibitions, programming, and online access.

Accessing the Collections

Our new Digital Collections website includes over 5,000 digitized items that span our collections!

Our museum and library collections are available to researchers by appointment. Search our library’s online catalog and schedule a visit to view library and archival materials.

A selection of our collections, including objects and fine art, are on display in the museum’s permanent exhibition, Making Modernity, ExhibitLab, and in temporary exhibitions featured in the Hach Gallery. Please contact museum@sciencehistory.org if you are interested in viewing other museum collections materials.

Digital reproductions of photographs, archival materials, and other items from the collections are available through our collections staff. For more information on obtaining digital reproductions, click here.
