Anaël Marrec is a historian of technology with a PhD in epistemology and the history of science and technology. With a background in engineering, she defended her thesis in 2018 on the history of renewable energies in France (1880–1990). After that she became an associate researcher at the Centre François Viète, University of Nantes.

At the Science History Institute her studies focused on alternative energies, comparing the energy use of waste matter in the United States and France between 1970 and 1990.
