Prakash Kumar had two fellowships at our organization. In 2001–2002 it was to research “Exploring the Competitive Relationship between Natural and Synthetic Indigo at the Turn of the 20th Century in Order to Better Understand the Workings of Technological ‘Progress.’” The next year Kumar returned to research “The Transition from Natural to Artificial Dyestuffs: Science, Business, and Politics of Natural Indigo Manufacturing in Colonial India, 1890–1930.”
