Alexis White came to the Science History Institute as a PhD candidate in the History of Art at Bryn Mawr College. Her in-progress dissertation project explores the impact of the American knitting industry on 20th-century aesthetics. At the Science History Institute, she researched the technical, physical, and visual properties of industrially produced knitted fabric in order to comparatively analyze the novel body movements of modern dance and athletics.
