Madison Clyburn
Madison Clyburn is a PhD candidate in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University and a researcher on the Rethinking the Feather Book: History, Art and Science Project (SSHRC funded, 2026–2029). Her dissertation project visualizes the material culture of women’s perfumed wellness practices in early modern Northern Italy. At the Science History Institute, she will examine how glass, metal, and scented-paste earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, and rings gifted to or exchanged among women and men bound by affective and economic relationships shaped a fragrant salutary economy. Madison’s research has been supported by the Yan P. Lin Centre’s Global Pasts Research Group (McGill) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – société et culture.
