
Peter Astras
Peter Astras (he/him/his) is an assistant teaching professor in the Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition at Syracuse University, a writing consultant with the university’s Writing Center, and a host for the Environmental Studies channel on the New Books Network. He brings a multidisciplinary background to his work, with extensive experience in both secondary and higher education. Before joining Syracuse, he taught English, social studies, and students with disabilities in secondary schools, developing a strong appreciation for research, educational resources, and the transformative power of learning.
He is the author of Lake Hopatcong: New Jersey’s Largest Lake (2024), and his research focuses on ecocriticism and environmental studies through the lenses of literature, history, place, and rhetoric. Astras holds a PhD in English from St. John’s University and MA degrees in English and history from the City University of New York, College of Staten Island.
